Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, stimulates the skin to produce extra collagen and smoothens the appearance of scars. SkinPen treatment makes small injections into the skin to allow your dermis to make new, healthier cells. These "micro" injuries encourage collagen synthesis and rapid turnover of younger cells.
Hydrogenous jelly is also introduced into the skin via a serum during the procedure, which enhances the skin’s elasticity and fullness by attracting water. The result is smoother, firmer, and younger looking skin.
We also offer the option of ProGen PRP, which is your own body's serum that is applied during the treatment. PRP has the potential to greatly increase the results that you see, while also having the benefit of being entirely tailored to you, because it is you!
Skin needling procedures are performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of the sterile FDA approved SkinPen system. Numbing cream is available to provide a pain-free experience. You will need to arrive 20 minutes before your procedure to have the numbing cream applied. The procedure is normally completed within 30-60 minutes depending on the required treatment and the place you want treated. There is about 24-48 hours of downtime associated with this procedure.
Pre and Post Treatment:
ONE WEEK BEFORE YOUR MICRONEEDLING
Avoid these products and/or procedures in area(s) treated:
• Electrolysis
• Waxing
• Depilatory Creams
• Laser Hair Removal
• Patients who have had medical cosmetic facial treatments or procedures (e.g. laser therapy, surgical procedures, cosmetic filler, microdermabrasion, etc) should wait until skin sensitivity completely resolves before having a microneedling treatment
• Patients who have had botulinum toxin injections should wait until full effect of their treatment is seen before receiving a microneedling treatment
AFTER YOUR MICRONEEDLING
Immediately after your Micro-Needling procedure, do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil. These agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for your skin rejuvenation.
Follow these simple steps:
Day of procedure: No lotions, makeup, or other topical products on your face before your procedure. After your procedure your medical provider may apply a lipo-peptide booster, skin moisturizer, and sunscreen. We provide a small tube of the hydrogenous jelly to used every hour until gone and RESCUE tube to help you care for your skin. RESCUE is to be utilized starting at hour five and for two days post procedure. You may clean your face with a gentle cleanser before bed. Your face will feel tight and tender.
Day 1: On the next day, you may clean your face as usual and apply makeup, and lotions. Stay away from exfoliants or glycolic acids that are present in cleaners as these can make your skin very dry after the procedure. Avoid retinol and vitamin C until at least day 3, but preferably until day 5. Be sure to use an approved SPF30 or greater sunscreen!
Days 2-7: Within two (2) days following your micro needling procedure, you will notice skin dryness and flaking. This is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. During this period, you may apply your regular skin moisturizer. Follow the instructions given to you by your medical professional. If your medical professional used the roller or needle device around the eyes, you may have a little micro bruising that may exist for three or four days. This can easily be covered with makeup.
Days later, your skin may start shedding. This is a good thing! The skin layers that would regularly shed over time, microneedling brings to the surface sooner. During this temporary process, your skin may shed and be dry.
Days 7+: A week after the Micro-Needling procedure, most patients notice that their skin is smoother and more radiant. You may completely restart your skin care regimen, including serums.
It takes time for the body to make collagen (about 4 weeks), results with this therapy are gradual, but long lasting.
Treatment course varies, but usually a course of 3 treatments (more depending on the condition being treated) spaced four weeks apart is typically recommended. Additional treatments are then prescribed at the discretion of your provider with more space in between treatment. Of course, results may vary from patient to patient. Keep in mind that the healthier your body is, the better will be the results you achieve from a microneelding procedure. Your body’s function and overall health are reflected in your skin.
